Past Press Releases

2005 Pakistan Earthquake

Coverage in the Bucks Free Press of the earthquake and the subsequent humanitarian efforts of Five Pillars and supporting partners can be found here.

During the 2005 earthquake, a Bucks Free Press reporter was brought to the heart of the natural disaster to truly understand the devastation and suffering that had occurred. A number of people and villages were visited, each with their own heart-breaking story to tell. One father spoke of his ordeal carrying his child, who had suffered broken arms, for two days straight to reach a hospital.

Coverage in the Bucks Free Press led to further donations that were used for food, temporary accommodation, medicines, clean water and finding shelter for heavily pregnant ladies. Later on temporary schools and a tent city were set up to provide more stability while long term housing needs were being planned.

Five Pillars flew to Rohinghya in 2018 to help the escalating refugee situation with funds raised from friends and family.

Alongside fellow organisations and the aid of local contacts, the money raised was spent on necessities such as food and blankets.

Essentials were handed out around the camp with each family reached receiving both blankets, food and water.

With food and blankets distributed, Five Pillars also helped create temporary shelters and sanitation for a number of families in the region.
